SO-EMS M01

Energy Meter

M01 is the first physical measurement module of the Sustainable Oasis Energy Management System.

Its purpose is to create a trusted low-voltage DC measurement bench capable of tracking voltage, current, power and accumulated energy through a defined system.

SOURCE METER LOAD / STORAGE RECOVERY LOGGER

M01 PURPOSE

Build the measurement layer before judging the experiment.

A Sustainable Oasis energy experiment should not rely only on voltage, current or visible motion.

M01 is designed to accumulate energy over time so that input and output can be compared using watt-hours.

CORE MEASUREMENTS

Four values create the foundation.

V

Voltage

Measure electrical potential across the monitored circuit.

A

Current

Measure electrical current flowing through the monitored path.

W

Power

Calculate instantaneous electrical power from voltage and current.

Wh

Energy

Accumulate power over time to determine the energy transferred through the measurement point.

ELECTRICAL MODEL

Power is a rate. Energy includes time.

V × A W W × TIME Wh

Because voltage and current can change during a test, M01 should accumulate measurements over time rather than assume one constant power value.

BENCH ARCHITECTURE

A simple physical path with visible measurement points.

DC SOURCE FUSE M01 INPUT METER DEVICE UNDER TEST OUTPUT METER LOAD
SRC

DC Source

A defined low-voltage battery or regulated DC power source supplies the experiment.

PROT

Protection

Use appropriately rated protection such as a fuse or current-limited power supply.

DUT

Device Under Test

The motor, converter, generator, controller, load or experimental subsystem being evaluated.

LOAD

Known Load

A defined load helps create repeatable test conditions.

M01 MEASUREMENT POINTS

Measure both sides of the experiment.

MP-01

Source Input

Record voltage, current, power and watt-hours entering the experimental system.

INPUT
MP-02

Device Output

Record electrical output leaving the device under test.

OUTPUT
MP-03

Storage Input

Record energy entering a battery or other electrical storage device.

STORAGE IN
MP-04

Storage Output

Record energy leaving storage during discharge.

STORAGE OUT
MP-05

Recovery Path

Measure recovered electrical energy separately from primary source energy.

RECOVERY

SYSTEM BOUNDARY RULE

If energy enters the experiment, count it.

External chargers, auxiliary batteries, powered controllers, reset mechanisms and storage depletion can all contribute energy to a test.

M01 is useful only when the system boundary is defined clearly enough that important energy inputs cannot hide outside the measurement.

STANDARD TEST PROCEDURE

Use the same sequence every time.

01

Define the Question

Write exactly what the energy test is intended to determine.

02

Define the Boundary

Identify what is inside the system and which energy sources must be counted.

03

Record Starting State

Record source voltage, battery state and relevant initial conditions.

04

Zero the Meters

Reset accumulated energy values before the test begins.

05

Start the Test

Begin the experiment under documented operating conditions.

06

Log Measurements

Record voltage, current, power, energy and timestamps.

07

Stop at Defined Condition

Use a predetermined duration, energy level or system condition to end the test.

08

Record Final State

Measure remaining storage and other relevant ending conditions.

09

Compare Energy

Compare total measured inputs, outputs, storage change and recovered energy.

10

Repeat

Repeat the experiment before treating one result as reliable.

M01 DATA RECORD

Minimum dataset for every energy run.

ID

Test ID

Assign a unique reference to every test run.

TIME

Timestamp

Record start, stop and measurement interval.

VIN

Input Voltage

Record source voltage during operation.

AIN

Input Current

Record source current during operation.

WIN

Input Power

Track instantaneous power entering the system.

WH-IN

Input Energy

Accumulate total watt-hours supplied during the run.

WH-OUT

Output Energy

Accumulate useful electrical output in watt-hours.

WH-REC

Recovered Energy

Record recovered energy on its own measurement path.

CALCULATED METRICS

Derive metrics only after the raw measurements exist.

EFFICIENCY

Conversion Efficiency

Useful output energy divided by measured input energy, expressed as a percentage for the defined boundary.

Efficiency = Wh Out ÷ Wh In × 100
RECOVERY

Recovery Fraction

Recovered energy compared with the relevant measured input or process energy.

Recovery = Wh Recovered ÷ Reference Wh × 100
LOSS

Accounted Loss

Energy entering the boundary that is not found in useful output or increased storage.

Loss = Wh In − Wh Out − ΔWh Storage
EXAMPLE ONLY Demonstration Test Record
DEMO
INPUT 100 Wh
OUTPUT 82 Wh
STORAGE CHANGE 4 Wh
ACCOUNTED LOSS 14 Wh

These numbers are demonstration values only. They are included to illustrate the accounting model and are not measurements from a Sustainable Oasis experiment.

METER VALIDATION

Test the meter before testing the experiment.

01

Voltage Check

Compare the M01 voltage reading with a trusted reference meter.

02

Current Check

Compare current measurement at several known load levels.

03

Known Load Test

Operate a stable load for a known duration and compare expected energy with accumulated watt-hours.

04

Repeatability

Repeat the same test to verify that results remain reasonably consistent.

05

Record Error

Document observed meter error instead of assuming perfect measurement.

M01 → CONTROL ROOM

The long-term goal is automatic measured data.

Today, Sustainable Oasis Online can store manual, demonstration and estimated values.

M01 gives us the physical measurement layer needed to begin replacing those values with instrumented energy data.

Each incoming value should eventually carry its source, timestamp and MEASURED classification.

M01 SAFETY

Begin with controlled low-voltage DC testing.

M01 is intended to establish measurement methods at low voltage and limited energy before moving toward larger systems.

Batteries can still deliver very high fault current. Conductors, connectors, fuses, switches and meters must be appropriately rated for the test circuit.

High-voltage, mains-connected and high-energy systems require suitable equipment, protection and qualified expertise.
