SYSTEM 01 — ENERGY
Generate. Store. Use. Recover. Measure.
The Sustainable Oasis energy system is designed around measurable energy flows rather than isolated pieces of equipment.
Every source, battery, load and recovery experiment should eventually be expressed in the same language: watt-hours in, watt-hours out, watt-hours stored and watt-hours recovered.
Values shown here come from the local Sustainable Oasis Control Room dataset and may be DEMO, ESTIMATED or MEASURED.
ENERGY ARCHITECTURE
Five functions. One measurable loop.
The system begins with generation, but resilience comes from balancing production, storage, demand, recovery and measurement.
Generate
Produce electricity from solar, wind, hydro or other validated energy sources.
Store
Preserve useful electrical energy for periods when generation does not match demand.
Consume
Measure real electrical loads and identify where energy is actually being used.
Recover
Capture useful energy from legitimate regenerative or recovery processes where practical.
Measure
Track every important flow with consistent units, timestamps and experimental context.
GENERATION
Multiple sources. One energy ledger.
Different generation technologies can coexist, but their contribution should be measured independently before being combined.
Photovoltaic
Convert sunlight directly into electrical energy and compare expected production with measured output.
Solar Calculator →Wind Energy
Evaluate wind generation only where site conditions and measured wind resources support the technology.
Micro-Hydro
Use measurable water flow and head where site conditions make small-scale hydro practical.
Experimental Sources
Test unconventional concepts through instrumented experiments without assuming the outcome in advance.
View Experiments →STORAGE
Production without storage is only part of resilience.
Battery systems allow energy produced at one moment to support loads later.
Useful storage depends on more than nominal capacity. Depth of discharge, conversion losses, battery chemistry, temperature and system demand all affect practical autonomy.
Battery Runtime CalculatorENERGY BALANCE
Generation matters only in relation to demand.
Energy systems should be compared over the same time period using consistent units.
The Energy Balance Calculator combines generation, consumption and recovered energy to reveal whether the selected operating period shows a surplus, approximate balance or deficit.
RECOVERY
Recover useful energy where physics and economics allow.
Recovery systems can reduce waste, but they do not create energy from nothing. Their value must be demonstrated by measuring energy before and after the recovery process.
Regenerative Braking
Convert part of a vehicle's kinetic energy back into electrical storage during deceleration.
Water Recovery
Investigate whether useful energy can be recovered from water already moving through the system.
Thermal Recovery
Capture otherwise wasted heat when the recovered thermal energy has a practical use.
Experimental Recovery
Evaluate compressed air, mechanical storage and other concepts with input-versus-output measurement.
SO-EMS
The measurement layer.
Sustainable Oasis Energy Management System — SO-EMS — is the R&D measurement framework designed to track energy entering, leaving, being stored and being recovered.
Its purpose is simple: turn energy experiments into measurable evidence.
ENERGY TOOLKIT
Plan first. Measure next.
Solar Calculator
Estimate daily, monthly and annual solar production.
Open tool →Battery Runtime
Estimate usable stored energy and electrical autonomy.
Open tool →Energy Balance
Compare generation, consumption and recovery.
Open tool →Oasis Planner
Connect energy with storage, water, food and resilience.
Open planner →ENERGY RESEARCH PRINCIPLE
Estimate is not measurement.
Every energy claim should eventually identify where the value came from and how it was measured.
Estimate
Use models to establish an expected operating range.
Instrument
Place meters where inputs and outputs can be observed.
Measure
Record volts, amps, watts, watt-hours and time.
Compare
Compare measured performance with the original model.
Improve
Change the design only after understanding the data.
SYSTEM CONNECTIONS
Energy supports every other Oasis system.
Pumps & Filtration
Energy moves water, powers filtration and supports monitoring.
Water System →Growing Systems
Pumps, lighting, controls and refrigeration can all create food-system energy demand.
Food System →Building Loads
Insulation, ventilation and passive design directly affect energy requirements.
Shelter System →Automation
Sensors and controls help match energy supply, storage and demand.
